New Unger HiFlo™ nLite – Evolutionary Water Fed Pole Technology for Professionals
Unger is ushering in a new age of enlightenment with the launch of HiFlo™ nLite – the most advanced water-fed pole system to hit the market in years.
This latest innovation from Unger, the company that provides smart cleaning solutions to more than 80 countries worldwide, will change the way that windows and façades are cleaned forever by combining the best features of its telescopic and modular poles into a brand new system that delivers unrivalled results and adaptability.
The key features of the new Unger HiFloTM nLite system are:
Innovative engineering
- Perfect balance – better rigidity for more control, and yet up to 50% lighter in weight thanks to its carbon fibre technology
- Hi tech design – every part of the system, from clamps and levers to brushes has been created to deliver the highest standards with cutting edge looks
Ease of use
- Comfort and safety – the weight/rigidity balance makes HiFloTM nLite easier and more comfortable to use, even for longer periods of time
- Easy assembly – extensions can be added quickly and easily, and equipment adjusted to tackle any cleaning situation
Adaptability
- Mix and match – only use as many poles or attachments as you need
- Multi-talented system – the HiFloTM nLite can be used to clean glass and building facades, stainless steel, solar panels, signage, and vehicles
- Unique hose management system – allows the user to have the hose inside or outside the pole
The highest professional cleaning standards are even easier to achieve with the HiFloTM nLite system thanks to its perfect balance between weight and rigidity. Not only are the poles lighter than conventional versions, the use of cutting edge design and technology means that even when extensions are added rigidity is not compromised, and yet the weight and ergonomics of the system still make it a pleasure to use.
The four section master pole cleans up to a height of 6.63m/22ft, but taller locations are easily reached by adding two-stage extensions to the base of the master pole. These extensions, each adding another potential 11ft of reach but crucially not adding anything to the width and feel of the pole, measure 35mm in diameter – an optimum size that fits easily into the hands of the professional for quick and comfortable cleaning. Even if you’re cleaning to a height of around 65ft the HiFloTM nLite offers the ‘gold standard’ in terms of ease of use and results – because it combines just the right amount of rigidity to control your cleaning, but in a lightweight system that’s better for the professional to use.
Every part of the new system has been designed specifically with the user in mind. The clamps, which adjust pole height or attach the extensions, are simple to operate – no fiddly allen key-type devices needed – and easily adjustable to ensure the right tension; plus the gooseneck attachment is made from carbon fibre, again keeping weight to a minimum. Even the brushes are lighter – but that doesn’t mean less features or functionality. On the contrary, a selection of brushes are available, one of which, at 60cm/24in, is large enough to quickly clean solar panels, featuring bristles designed to get into the smallest corner and help with scrubbing actions. Whereas conventional brushes usually only have two jets, HiFloTM nLite brushes can feature up to ten quick release jets, making it much easier to control the water flow and rinse surfaces.
Dave Rogers, Unger Europe’s European Sales Manager, said: “We believe that the HiFlo™ nLite is a truly revolutionary new product, the next generation of water-fed cleaning pole systems. We are confident that HiFlo™ nLite will be received enthusiastically by window cleaners and contract cleaners across the globe, thanks to its innovative features, ease of use and cost benefits. The launch of HiFlo™ nLite is a high point in Unger’s history, a real leap forward in the evolution of professional cleaning equipment.”
If you want to be ‘enlightened’ the HiFlo™ nLite will be unveiled to the global cleaning industry on stand 1.205 at ISSA/Interclean, Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands 8-11 May.

PHS Washrooms sets new industry standard with the world’s first waste disposal services to hold the Carbon Reduction Label
May 2, 2012
The PHS Group, one of the UK’s leading workplace service providers, is proud to announce that the sanitary disposal unit exchange services operated by its PHS Washrooms division now hold the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Reduction Label.
In a world first for the industry, PHS Washrooms can now display the Carbon Reduction Label which identifies that these services have had their carbon footprints calculated and then independently certified by the Carbon Trust against an internationally recognised standard. PHS Washrooms plans to include the Label in a variety of communications specifically relating to its sanitary disposal unit exchange services, including sales literature, press releases and web pages. A carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted by a product or service during the life or a product or service, including production, use and disposal. For PHS Washrooms’ sanitary disposal unit exchange services this includes the manufacturing of a sanitary disposal unit, the collection and cleaning process, and the disposal of the waste.
By displaying the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Reduction Label, PHS Washrooms is making a commitment to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of these services over a two year period. The information for this project, which concentrated on PHS Washroom’s sanitary disposal unit exchange services using the ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Mini’ bins, was collected from PHS Washrooms and other key suppliers. To be eligible to use the Carbon Reduction Label the carbon footprint was certified by Carbon Trust Certification Limited to the British Standards Institution’s Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2050:2008, the Carbon Trust’s Code of Good Practice and The Carbon Trust’s Footprint Expert Guide.
Keri Reynolds, Marketing Manager for PHS Washrooms, said: “We are delighted to have achieved the milestone of certification to the Carbon Trust Standard, which demonstrates our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products and services. The assessment process and certification has given us the opportunity to look at ways to increase energy efficiency, reduce waste and streamline logistics for our core products and services. Our aim is to offer our customers an even better service, and in turn help them achieve their own environmental goals.”
Darran Messem, Managing Director of Certification at the Carbon Trust, said: “Calculating the carbon footprint of a product or service is an important step in reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and cost. The Carbon Trust congratulates PHS Washrooms for their hard work and commitment to reducing the environmental impact of their sanitary disposal unit exchange services. The certification and labelling demonstrates that with the right level of skills, tenacity, and support it is possible to reduce an organisation’s environmental impact, which has a hugely positive effect on a company’s reputation, and the business as a whole.”

Airdri showcases its sustainable hand dryers for every washroom
April 16, 2012
Airdri, the responsible provider of sustainable hand drying systems, will be showcasing its full range of sustainable warm air hand dryers at the Facilities Show to be held at the NEC 15-17 May.
Recognising that every washroom has different requirements and one size does not fit all, Airdri has introduced a warm air hand dryer for every kind of washroom environment from factories and catering establishments to large commercial offices, restaurants, hotels and healthcare environments.
The Tough One, the Airdri Classic, has the option of an extremely durable cast iron cover which makes it suitable for a wide range of heavy traffic environments such as factories, catering establishments, large commercial offices and hotels. Or maybe your premises have a peaceful feel such as a relaxed restaurant or health and beauty chain where The Quiet One, the stylish, stainless steel Contour, would be the perfect fit? The Slim One, the Elite, is the perfect choice to compliment any contemporary washroom design.
Most recently Airdri has introduced The Green One, The Classic+ MkII, which has a power consumption of less than 1.5kw @ 230 volts, improving energy efficiency. With an average drying time of less than 16 seconds, it is perfect for high traffic areas. This fast drying, energy efficient hand dryer also has the lowest noise levels in its class.
Exceptional performance doesn’t have to mean excessive noise. Droning drills, whooshing washing machines, and screeching shredders are sounds we endure in our everyday lives. Noisy appliances are not only a nuisance but, according to the World Health Organisation, excessive noise can seriously harm human health, affecting concentration, disrupting recreation, inducing stress and causing cardiovascular harm. Airdri has listened carefully to facilities managers’ requirements and, through The Classic+ MkII, is leading the way in reducing the noise of dryers without reducing functionality.
Servicing the product is quick and easy too – it can take as little as just three minutes to complete the job. From a cost point of view, its lifespan is six times longer than other fast dry hand dryers and using warm air hand dryers saves up to 80% of the cost of supplying and maintaining a washroom with paper or roller towels.
Caring for the environment is a priority, which is why Airdri’s approach is to ensure it delivers the ultimate in ecologically-sound warm air hand dryers.
Airdri staff will be on hand throughout the Facilities Show to explain about its full range of dryers. Aidri is internationally recognised as a leader in the design, manufacture and supply of energy efficient, washroom warm air hand dryers all of which are reliable, versatile, robust, extremely service friendly and built by knowledgeable experts who understand the hand drying application.
For more information call Airdri on +44 (0)1865 882330, visit the website www.airdri.com or come along to stand 21, Hall 2 at The Facilities Show, 15-17 May, Birmingham NEC

Ethical bird control methods take flight at health and safety shows
March 7, 2012
Falconry and fake fire gel are just two of the innovative bird control methods being showcased at health and safety shows across the UK by environmentally responsible bird and wildlife control specialists, NBC Bird & Pest Solutions.
The UK’s leading bird control specialist will be exhibiting at Health & Safety North at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton from 10-11 October, which follows a successful demonstration of its ethical treatments at Health and Safety South at Sandown Park, Esher from 28-29 February.
Visitors had the opportunity to get up close and personal with Hazel, a live Harris Hawk on the stand, where NBC qualified bird control specialists explained the company’s full range of services including:
Bird Free ‘Fake Fire’ Gel
Developed by scientists, this new method of bird control uses food-grade natural oils to keep pigeons, gulls and other problem bird species off structures without harming them. To the birds, the gel gives off ultra-violet light, appearing as flames. This visual deterrent is reinforced by the natural oils’ smell and taste, which is abhorrent to the birds.
Falconry response bird control
Trained wildlife experts use falconry response as an extremely effective method of control, where bird proofing isn’t an option. The building may be listed or the size of the building could make proofing impractical. The presence of a trained hawk or falcon quickly makes an area undesirable to gulls and pigeons and encourages them to establish a new pattern of behaviour without harming any of the nuisance bird population.
Rockets and kites
These quick and easy bird scaring methods are usually used as part of a bird scaring programme in conjunction with other methods and are ideal for customers who are looking to keep costs down.
Audio deterrents
Broadcasting audio recordings of gulls, starlings, rooks and crows in distress can be very effective in some situations as an alternative method of bird control.
Bird proofing solutions
Using traditional methods such as bird netting and spiking, NBC Bird & Pest Solutions also supplies innovative solutions such as Avishock which provides mild electric shock (much like cattle fencing) to deter birds when they land on installed tracks. Avishock is ideal where low profile proofing is required to maintain the aesthetics of a building, as it is invisible from the ground.
Bird guano cleaning service
As well as being unsightly, bird guano is a potential health risk to the public. In substantial quantities bird guano’s acidic matter can also cause damage to the fabric of buildings which in turn, leads to higher cleaning and repair bills. Large quantities of guano will also be infested with blood-feeding insects.
There are health and safety regulations that need to be followed when working with or near bird guano. Anyone doing so should observe the regulations and consult an experienced professional.
Legislative advice
NBC Bird & Pest Solutions advocates an ethical approach to bird and pest control, ensuring its treatments have no adverse effects on wildlife and surrounding environments including urban communities. The team can provide advice on legislation including regulation relating to protected species, egg and nest removal.
Pest control and pest prevention services
In addition to bird control, NBC Bird & Pest Solutions provide pest control and prevention services for every type of pest imaginable – from rodents and insects to nuisance wildlife such as rabbits or foxes. Its network of offices and technicians across the UK mean it can provide a ‘same day’ response for all commercial or domestic pest problems without the added cost of using sub-contractors.
Industry standards and qualifications
NBC Bird & Pest Solutions is a member of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and holds a range of industry recognised qualifications including ISO 9001; ISO 14001; Safe Contractor; The Contractors Health and Safety Scheme; and the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme. The company is a member of the Facilities Management Association (FMA) and the ‘Think Wildlife’ campaign for responsible use of rodenticides.
